Andy Cullen, Telesales Executive in Comline Ireland!
Andy has been working in Comline Ireland for the past 6 years. His background in sales, coupled with his experience in office and team settings, brings good support to the team.
What was your first ever job?
- I worked in a recruitment agency in Dublin city. It helped me learn many aspects of working as part of a team in a very busy business environment. Twenty years on, and I am still drawn to working in a team environment!
What do you enjoy about working for Comline Ireland?
- Every day is so different – you never know what to expect. There is plenty of problem-solving and helping customers find the right parts. It can be challenging but very rewarding when a customer comes back to acknowledge that your expertise was very helpful. I am very lucky to work with a great bunch of lads. While the banter and craic are great, we all know the importance of keeping our heads down and supporting each other throughout the day.
What sparked your interest in the automotive industry, and how did you find your way to our team?
- The automotive industry was not something I had previous experience in, so I welcomed the challenge when the opportunity arose. The team at Comline was very welcoming from day one and incredibly helpful in training and supporting me until I became more comfortable in my role. I was very fortunate to find a great mentor in my boss’s late dad, who spent many hours showing me the basics of cars when I first started – I will always remember his kindness.
If you could swap jobs with any team member for a day, who would it be and why?
- While I have great respect for all my work colleagues, I must admit it would be lovely to act as the boss for the day! However, I don’t think I could handle the stress after a day!
What is your greatest strength you bring to the role?
- I like to think I am very organized and customer-focused, which are key elements for the Telesales department. I also feel I am a good team player and hope that I am seen as a good role model for the newer team members who have joined more recently.
If you could invite any fictional character to join our team, who would it be and what role would they play?
- Jeremy Clarkson—I know he is not fictional, but I think he would be good fun to have around the office, and he knows his cars!
What’s your ultimate comfort food for those hectic days at the office, and do you have a secret stash somewhere?
- I love my sausage rolls! And about five cups of tea are a must to get through the day. I don’t really keep a secret stash myself, but I know which drawers to raid if I feel like a treat!
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
- My biggest joy throughout my life is heading to all the Mighty Dubs GAA (Gaelic Football) games. When I am at home, I love watching GAA football and rugby and find it very rewarding when I coach the local kids’ rugby team and local football team. I have a son who is nine, and it’s become even more enjoyable sharing these pastimes with him—I feel very lucky he also enjoys the same sports that I do.
Where were you born?
- Dublin
Where would you like to go if you had a month off and money was no object?
- It would have to be Vegas!
What’s the best advice you have ever heard?
- When I was growing up, my dad always said, “A fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work,” and to always give 100% effort – that’s all anyone can ask of you. I’d like to think this has always stayed with me throughout my working career.
What was the best day of your life and why?
- There are four (sorry, I really cannot pick just one!): in no particular order—my wedding day, the day my son was born, the Dubs’ five in a row, and, of course, Arsenal winning the league at Spurs’ ground!
If you invited a child to a take your children to work day/event, what would you show the child about what you do at work? What would you tell the child about your job?
- My son visited my office one day, and I was very fortunate that my boss showed him around. I think he was amazed at how busy and full-on my workday can be even in the short time he was there. I have worked very hard since joining Comline to further my knowledge and expertise in the automotive industry. I try to pass on the lesson to my son that hard work always pays off. I’d like to think he is proud of his dad, as he still talks about his visit and even mentions to my wife that he would like to work in “Daddy’s office” when he is older!
What superpower would you like to have and why?
- Flash – 100% Flash Gordon as there is never enough hours in the day to get everything done! Wouldn’t it be great for just one day to be able to get everything done in a few seconds and then pause for the rest of the day to enjoy all the important moments in life!
